Giacinto Maria Barberi, originally from Squillace, was bishop of Nicastro from 1854 to 1881; he had been responsible for the foundation and expansion of the book heritage of the Seminary Library of which he edited a catalog printed in Naples in 1875. Many of the texts have been lost, but the quantity of ancient books and documents is still substantial, carefully catalogued and diligently sorted by Mons. Pietro Bonacci along with a scrupulous and extended work. Bishop Barberi belonged to the Order of Preachers and Father Russo describes him as a Master of Theology and a distinguished orator, committed to the moralization of the clergy and instilling the severity of morales. |
